Students, mostly women, staged protests on Saturday night at five universities, including Dhaka University (DU), demanding justice for recent incidents of rape and sexual harassment and swift punishment for the perpetrators. The protests took place at Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, and Khulna University.
The protests were triggered by a recent harassment case involving a female student of Dhaka University. A staff member of the university's central library was arrested by the police in connection with the incident. However, a group of people, under the banner of Touhidi Janata, gathered in front of the police station, causing unrest. The accused was later granted bail on Thursday.
Following this, students from various departments of Dhaka University issued statements demanding punishment for the accused. Meanwhile, another case of child abuse in Magura has gained widespread attention, with authorities stating that the child’s condition is critical.
Additionally, a third-grade student in Gazipur’s Sreepur was among several recent victims of sexual violence across the country. These incidents have sparked fear and outrage among women, children, and their families. Many people have also taken to social media to express their protest and demand action.
