UN Secretary-General Hopes Upcoming Election To Set a Global Precedent

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed optimism that Bangladesh's upcoming election will create a global precedent.

This statement came after a roundtable meeting between Guterres and political leaders in Bangladesh on Saturday, March 15. The meeting, held at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka, included leaders from various political parties.

BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, speaking to journalists after the meeting, shared that the UN Secretary-General discussed reforms in different sectors of the state. According to Ahmed, Guterres told the BNP leaders that the extent of these reforms was an internal matter for Bangladesh.

Salahuddin Ahmed also mentioned that Guterres expressed hope that the election would lead to the formation of a strong democratic government in Bangladesh and emphasized that the election would set a remarkable example on the global stage.

The meeting was attended by BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary-General Mia Golam Parwar, AB Party General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad, National Citizens’ Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, Ganosamhati Andolon’s Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki, and CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince, among others.
