Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Naib Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Abu Taher have met with BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in London, United Kingdom.
Maruf Kamal Khan, the former press secretary to the BNP Chairperson, stated in a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 15th) around 9:30 PM that the two Jamaat leaders recently visited the residence of BNP's acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
According to Khan, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Dr. Syed Abdullah Abu Taher returned to the country after concluding their Europe tour and meeting former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in London. They also met with Tarique Rahman, the elder son of the Zia couple and the acting Chairman of the BNP, at his residence. Tarique Rahman was reportedly present during the lengthy meeting. Begum Khaleda Zia is currently receiving medical treatment at her son's residence.
Khan further mentioned that the topics discussed during the meeting between Begum Zia and the two top Jamaat leaders remain unknown. He added that it remains to be seen whether this meeting between the two doctors will create any new political dynamics or if it was merely a courtesy visit, and that observers should watch developments.
Maruf Kamal Khan also noted that before Begum Zia went to the UK for advanced medical treatment, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman and his wife also visited her at her residence. Details of that meeting were also not disclosed.
