On Friday Pakistan and on Saturday it is Sri Lanka. Both the teams struggled to score one hundred runs. Pakistan lost to West Indies by 7 wickets after scoring only 105 runs. And today Sri Lanka were all out for 136 runs against New Zealand.
It was predicted about Sri Lanka team. Handover of captaincy to Karunaratne was a big surprise as he was not playing one day match for the last four years. Experienced were excluded during the team formation.
On Saturday Kiwi captain Williamson opted to field first after winning the toss at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The field was just heaven for the pacers.
The Sri Lankan batsmen were struggling to face the pace of Bolt, Matt Henry. No batsman excluding Karunaratne could pass the fifty runs mark. Kushall Perera scored 29 while Thisara Perera scored 27 runs.
Sri Lanka were bundled out for 136 runs after 29.2 overs.
Henry and Ferguson took 3 wickets each.
In response to bat two Kiwi opener Martin Guptill and Colin Munro easily faced the pace attack of Malinga and Lukmall. Five Sri Lankan bowers failed to make the batsmen out.
Both Guptill and Munro scored half centuries. Guptill scored 73 and Munro scored 58 runs. To achieve to the target of 137 runs the two openers faced only 16.1 overs bowling. It is a great beginning of Black-caps in the world cup after their 10 wicket victory against Sri Lanka.
