Both Argentina and Brazil secured victories in their respective matches in the South American U-20 Championship. On Monday (February 10), Brazil defeated Paraguay 3-1, while Argentina edged past Colombia 1-0.
The transformation of Brazil’s U-20 team has been remarkable. The same team that suffered a 6-0 defeat against Argentina in their opening match has now bounced back impressively. In the final stage, Brazil has won all three of their matches, including a comfortable victory over Paraguay. Argentina, too, has won all three of its final-stage matches.
With their third consecutive wins, both Brazil and Argentina have secured their spots in the U-20 World Cup, set to be held in Chile in September-October this year.
Despite both teams winning their first three matches in the final stage, Brazil leads the table due to a superior goal difference. Colombia, once considered a tournament favorite, has suffered defeats against both Argentina and Brazil.
Now, the U-20 Championship title race has effectively narrowed down to the two arch-rivals—Brazil and Argentina. The much-anticipated showdown between the two will take place on Friday, February 14, in the final stage of the tournament. That match could ultimately decide the championship winner.
