River ports operating in the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar have been instructed to display local cautionary signal number one as active monsoon atmospheric conditions threaten to bring torrential downpours and strong winds.

According to a bulletin issued today by the National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC), these inland waterways could experience thundershowers accompanied by temporary squally or gusty winds originating from the south or southeast direction, with speed ranges reaching between 45 and 60 kilometers per hour.

Heavy Rains Forecast across all Divisions

In a parallel forecast starting from 9 am on Thursday, widespread heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated across four major administrative divisions—Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram—over the course of 24 hours.

The notification specified that heavy precipitation is quantified between 44 and 88 millimeters, whereas very heavy rainfall will surpass 88 millimeters during this period.

Authorities further cautioned that intense downpours exceeding the 88-millimeter threshold could potentially trigger dangerous landslides in localized hilly terrains throughout Chattogram division.
