Maritime authorities have advised the sea ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep local cautionary signal number 3 hoisted after a well-marked low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal regions intensified into a monsoon depression.

According to a weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Monday morning, the depression is currently positioned over the southwestern portion of the Bangladesh-West Bengal coastline and the adjoining Northwest Bay.

Forecasts indicate that the weather system is likely to track further in a northwestward direction.

Under the influence of the depression, stormy and squally weather is expected to affect the maritime ports, the North Bay, and nearby coastal belts of Bangladesh.

Consequently, all fishing trawlers and boats operating in the North Bay have been directed to stay close to the shoreline and exercise extreme caution until further notice.
