Political violence has no place in democratic elections, said US state Dept

US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said Bangladesh to investigate any report of violence thoroughly, transparently, and impartially, and to hold the perpetrators of violence to account.

In a regular briefing in Washington on July 17, Matthew Miller told that on assaulting Ashraful Alam, widely known as 'Hero Alam' during the Dhaka-17 by-polls yesterday.

Miller also said, "We they would expect the government of Bangladesh to hold free and fair elections and continue to monitor it closely.”

He said, "I would say that this type of political violence has no place in democratic elections,"

Meanwhile, UN in Bangladesh expressed concern over attack on Hero Alam.
