34.33pc voter turnout in 4th phase: CEC

The fourth phase of the 6th upazila parishad election ended spontaneously without any major untoward incident.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said 34.33 percent votes were cast in 60 upazilas of 26 districts in this phase.

He said this at a press conference at the Election Commission in Agargaon in the capital on Wednesday (June 5).

Habibul Awal said, 'I am satisfied that the election in 60 upazilas was peaceful.'

In the fourth phase, one chairman, three vice-chairmen and one woman vice-chairman have already been elected uncontested in 60 upazilas. A total of 721 candidates, including 251 for chairman post, 265 for vice chairman post and 205 for reserved vice chairman post, are contesting in the polls.
