Continuous rain across much of the country over the past four days has caused significant difficulties, particularly in Dhaka. Due to the influence of low pressure, heavy rain persisted throughout Saturday and continued into the night.

On Sunday morning (September 15), the situation worsened for Dhaka residents, with many struggling to get to work or school. Office workers, students, and commuters faced the brunt of the disruption.

While water did not accumulate on major roads, many alleys in different parts of the city were flooded. Streets were covered with muddy water, adding to the discomfort of those trying to navigate the city.

Farooq Mia, an employee of a private company, shared his frustration: "It has been raining since morning. I had no choice but to arrive at the office soaking wet. Rickshaws were hard to find, and those available charged high fares."

The continuous rain has been especially hard on those living on the streets, many of whom spent the night wrapped in plastic sheets for protection. Rickshaw pullers also faced extreme hardship.

Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman explained that the rain is a result of cloud formation caused by low pressure and predicted it may continue until Monday. He added that stormy winds are likely to affect sea and river ports, with signal number three in effect for sea ports and signal number two for river ports.

Heavy rainfall has also raised concerns about landslides in hilly areas.

In the last 24 hours, Dhaka recorded 32 mm of rain, while Patuakhali experienced the highest rainfall in the country at 223 mm. Other significant rainfall measurements include 133 mm in Gopalganj, 189 mm in Khepupara, 177 mm in Barisal, and 134 mm in Bhola.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours predicts light to moderate rain with gusty winds or thunderstorms in several regions, including Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barisal. Some areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A weather warning stated that a land depression over Jessore and nearby regions may shift west-northwest, leading to the formation of deep clouds over the North Bay of Bengal and coastal Bangladesh, with strong winds expected in these areas.

Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports have been instructed to display local warning signal number three, while inland river ports in several regions are advised to show warning signal number one due to expected gusty winds and rain.
