Doctors note that the peak season for dengue is from July to October, and cases are increasing. The rise in mosquito-borne diseases is being attributed to insufficient mosquito control measures by the city corporation, leading to a surge in dengue patients.
Professor Dr. Atikur Rahman explained that dengue is no longer a seasonal disease; it is now occurring throughout the year, with cases rising during the rainy season. He emphasized the need for mosquito control measures, increased public awareness, and proper use of insect repellents by city authorities to curb the spread of dengue.
Entomologist Dr. Manzur Chowdhury added that fines and awareness campaigns alone are not enough for effective mosquito control. Proper surveys must be conducted, and skilled personnel should be employed to take necessary actions.
Notably, 2023 saw the highest number of dengue cases in the country's history, with 321,179 people infected and 1,705 deaths.
