Ministry of Commerce Decides to Export Hilsa: Fisheries Advisor
Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said that the decision to export hilsa belongs to the Ministry of Commerce. The Ministry has given this permission on the special request of India, not us. Our commitment remains the same.
She said this in response to reporters' questions at a meeting at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 22).
"The Ministry of Commerce independently gave it (export approval)," said the advisor. They gave this approval because of India's request. India had a special request on the occasion of Durga Puja.
Mentioning that the price of hilsa will not increase by exporting, the fisheries advisor said that the price will increase, which is not right. There are many hilsa in the country. Last time also they took less hilsa. I will take action if the price increases due to export.
Hilsa fish has been exported from Bangladesh to India for several years on the occasion of Durga Puja. But this time there was uncertainty about it. Fish and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar said earlier that the hilsa fish will be exported after meeting the needs of the people of Bangladesh.
When asked whether the export of hilsa will be stopped or not, she said that the initiative will be taken so that the people of the country can get hilsa fish at low prices. If the people of Bangladesh do not get hilsa, then it cannot be exported.
Amid this discussion, an order issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Saturday approved the export of 3,000 tonnes of hilsa fish to India.
