Flight Permits to Be Revoked if Smuggling Allegations Arise: NBR
Abdur Rahman Khan, Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), stated that airlines must take responsibility for how gold is smuggled into aircraft and transported. "I don’t know what the existing laws say, but we will identify aircraft involved in such incidents. They will not receive route permits here," he firmly declared.
He made these remarks on Sunday (November 17) while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the "Customs Help Desk" at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Abdur Rahman Khan emphasized the need for discipline across all sectors, stating that imbalances must be addressed within a regulatory framework. He also highlighted inconsistencies in the amount of gold imported compared to local demand.
Regarding the current fiscal year’s budget, he mentioned that amendments to the announced baggage rules are forthcoming.
Later, the NBR chairman paid a courtesy visit to Air Vice Marshal Md. Mofidur Rahman, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), according to a statement released by the authority.
