Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, people elected you through their votes. So, want of people have to understand. You will have to evaluate in what people’s welfare happens.
She said these at the oath taking ceremony of newly elected Mayor and Councilors of Barishal City Corporation at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital on Monday.
At that time she urged the representatives of people to evaluate their voters properly.
In the goodwill speech the Prime Minister said, the goal of the government is that people in the villages will get facilities like the towns.
Sheikh Hasina said, father of the nation gave us an independent country. But due to his absence Bangladesh has to go through different problems. We are giving our efforts to different fields like poverty alleviation, increasing literacy rate, socio-economic development and increasing quality of lifestyle of people. Bangladesh is no more a neglected country, it is now role model of development.
Informing that the government has taken different programs for development, she said, we have taken many plans and are working to implement those.
We have taken initiatives so that massive development happens. So you have to perform your duties keeping eyes on that, she said.
In her speech the Prime Minister urged the Mayor and councilors to spend the development budget properly. Besides, she urged to work for development of people influenced by the ideals of Bangabandhu.
Sheikh Hasina said, Awami League government is working for development of fate of people being in power for the 10 consecutive years. The government’s goal is to make free the country from poverty through sacrifice. We have reduced poverty rate to 21 percent which was 40 percent. Per capita income has increased at present.
‘We the people who do politics, have to think always that not making fortunes for us- our goals should be what the people at the grass root level get, how much we have done to change their fate’.
