General Waker-uz-Zaman, Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army, has returned home following official visits to Russia and Croatia.
The Bangladesh Army shared the news through a post on its verified Facebook page on Saturday (April 12).
During his tour, General Waker-uz-Zaman engaged in meetings with several high-ranking military and civilian officials in both countries. He held courtesy calls with prominent figures, including Russia's Army Chief, the country's Deputy Defense Minister, and the Chief of Croatia's Armed Forces.
On April 7, he met with Russian Deputy Defense Minister General Alexander Fomin. Their discussions focused on key areas such as military training cooperation, strengthening bilateral ties, the export of skilled manpower to Russia, opportunities for higher education, regional security, and prospects for joint training exercises.
The following day, on April 8, General Waker-uz-Zaman held talks with General Oleg Salyukov, Chief of the Russian Army. Topics included future plans for defense cooperation agreements, training exchanges, student and instructor exchange programs between military institutions, and joint military drills.
He also met with the Director General of Rosatom, Russia's state nuclear energy corporation. The meeting addressed issues related to the security of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and its timely integration into Bangladesh’s national power grid.
In addition, the Army Chief met with senior officials from Russia’s state-owned defense firms Rostec and Rosoboron export. The discussions were centered on enhancing military cooperation and accelerating ongoing joint initiatives.
On April 10, during his visit to Croatia, General Waker-uz-Zaman had a courtesy meeting with Lieutenant General Tihomir Kundid, Chief of the Croatian Armed Forces. They discussed enhancing defense collaboration, building military capabilities, potential investments in defense industries, joint exercises, and future strategic planning.
General Waker-uz-Zaman departed for Russia on April 6 and continued his official tour to Croatia on April 10.
