The godowns of inflammable chemicals were like time bombs. After the devastating fire at Churihatta the chemical godowns were removed from that area to another places following government directions. But where these huge chemicals have gone?
In this regard Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Benazir Ahmed said, we have intelligence report that after the drives of task force the chemical businessmen have kept their materials in different residential areas in the capital.
The DG of RAB said these as the chief guest at a special view exchange meeting at Bakshibazar area in old Dhaka on Saturday organized by RAB-10.
He said, we will not allow Dhaka to turn into a time bomb following anybody's carelessness. You should keep the chemicals carefully to another places. The businessmen have to consider that Dhaka will not be turned into a time bomb due to carelessness.
Meanwhile, on February 20, a devastating fire broke out at Churihatta area on Nanda Kumar Dutt road at Chawkbazar in old Dhaka. 71 people lost their lives in the incident. The primary report said that the fire originated from a chemical godown. After the incident the government directed to relocate the chemical godowns from that area.
Benazir Ahmed said, the deceased of Churihatta were living beside the time bomb. We do not want any more single death like this way.
Mentioning 150 crore taka project to replace the chemical godowns the RAB DG said, it needs two years to complete the project. But we do not have much time. We want to solve it within two months. In this regard the businessmen need to work with brevity.
He said, fearing the drives somebody are keeping the chemicals at their homes or at relatives' homes. Earlier old Dhaka was a time bomb. Now it should be kept in mind that the whole Dhaka will not turn into a time bomb.
