Bangladesh Awami League has begun its formal election campaign earlier. Now to keep ahead the preparations the party has formed the election coordination committee.
The information came through a press release of the party on Monday. It said, Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the chairman of the committee. Party advisory council member H T Imam is the co-chairman and party general secretary Obaidul Quader is the member secretary of the committee.
The press release said, members of Awami League advisory council, central executive committee, president and general secretaries of associated organizations are made members of the committee.
There are 40 leaders in the Awami League advisory council and 81 members in the central executive committee. Besides there are associated bodies like Mahila Awali League, Juba League, Juba Mahila League, Shechhasebak League, Krishak League, Tanti League and Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad. So the total number of members in the election coordination committee will be 135.
Election Commission has said the next general election will be held either December or January. But Awami League wants that election should be held in December. Keeping ahead the target the ruling party began their election campaign from January 30.
As part of the campaign Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took part in rallies held in Sylhet, Barishal, Rajshahi, Khulna, Chattogram, Thakurgaon and Chandpur.
Besides, she has taken special initiatives to drive out intra party feud. Committee was also formed to trace the persons behind feud.
The 10th national parliament election was held following boycott by BNP and Jamaat. It is not sure whether BNP will take part in the next election or not. But Awami League is going ahead considering that BNP will participate in the election.
