Mohammad Abdur Rouf, a Former Appellate Division justice and former Chief Election Commissioner, passed away this morning (9 February).
He was 91 years old and had been receiving treatment at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka. According to media sources, he had been seriously ill for the past two months.
As per his family's decision, he will be buried in his ancestral home in Mymensingh after completing the necessary formalities in Dhaka.
Justice Rouf served as Bangladesh's fifth Chief Election Commissioner from 25 December 1990 to 18 April 1995.
He is survived by two sons, a daughter, and many well-wishers. His son, Mohammad Arshadur Rouf, currently serves as the Additional Attorney General.
The Attorney General's Office has extended its condolences on his passing.
