The Directorate of Primary Education has filed an appeal in the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the High Court's ruling that cancelled the recruitment of 6,531 candidates who were finally selected in the third phase for assistant teacher positions in government primary schools in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
The appeal was filed on Thursday (February 13). A hearing on this appeal will be held in the chamber court of the Appellate Division on Sunday (February 16).
On February 6, the High Court cancelled the recruitment of 6,531 candidates who had been selected in the final results of the third phase for assistant teacher positions in government primary schools in the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions. The court ordered a fresh recruitment based on merit. The ruling was given by the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Razi.
The final results for the third phase of recruitment for assistant teachers in government primary schools, excluding the three hill districts, were published on October 31 last year. The results, published on the website of the Directorate of Primary Education, listed 6,531 successful candidates.
Later, following a hearing on a writ petition, the High Court on November 19 last year suspended the recruitment process of the 6,531 candidates for six months. The Directorate of Primary Education then filed a leave-to-appeal petition seeking a stay on this order. The matter was heard in the Appellate Division on February 6.
In protest against the ruling, the deprived candidates staged a demonstration in front of the court on that very day.
