The Election Commission (EC) will celebrate National Voter Day across the country on Sunday, March 2, with various programs and events.
According to a press release signed by SM Asaduzzaman, Director General of the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) and Chairman of the Day Celebration Committee, activities will be held at the district, upazila, and central levels, including rallies and discussion sessions. The central discussion will take place at the Election Commission headquarters.
Representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Movement, the European Union, UNDP, and civil society members from the Observer Group will be invited to attend. Additionally, a celebrity will participate in the rally.
To encourage voter participation, the EC will also launch awareness campaigns. As in previous years, the updated final voter list will be published on National Voter Day, serving as the basis for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
According to the latest figures, the total number of registered voters in the country now stands at 121,850,160. This includes 62,144,587 male voters, 59,704,641 female voters, and 932 hijra (third gender) voters.
Additionally, during the voter list update campaign that began on January 20, EC data collectors gathered information on 5,090,037 individuals. Once registered, they will be added to the voter list.
EC officials confirmed that the celebration committee decided to invite coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Movement to participate in the event.
This year's theme for National Voter Day is: "In our Bangladesh, we will vote together in unity."
