The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is set to launch an 'all-out action' against identified criminal groups across the city. The DB has adopted a strict 'zero-tolerance' policy against all forms of crime, regardless of their scale.
Speaking at a press conference today (Saturday), Additional Commissioner of Police (Detective) Rezaul Karim Mallik announced the initiative. The conference, held at the Media and Public Relations Department, aimed to outline security measures for maintaining law and order during the holy month of Ramadan.
"During Ramadan, the DB is working tirelessly to ensure public safety. Our role in maintaining law and order is crucial. From today, we are launching a special intelligence operation alongside our ongoing activities. Our officers will be operating undercover among the public to identify and apprehend criminals," Rezaul Karim Mallik stated.
With increased public movement in shopping malls, banks, insurance offices, railway stations, bus terminals, and Sadarghat during Ramadan, DB has heightened surveillance to prevent any potential threats. The DB is also leveraging advanced technology to monitor long-distance bus routes and prevent accidents before they occur.
The Additional Commissioner highlighted that most individuals involved in theft, mugging, and robbery are between the ages of 15 and 30, with many being drawn into juvenile gangs and criminal activities.
He further stated that joint security forces have intensified operations nationwide. "Alongside the DB, other security forces, including the Bangladesh Army, are actively engaged. We are providing intelligence support to them, which will be further strengthened in the future," he added.
Among those present at the press conference were Joint Commissioner of Police (Admin & Detective-South) Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of Police (Detective-North) Mohammad Rabiul Hossain Bhuiyan, Joint Commissioner of Police (Cyber Security & Support Center-South) Syed Harun Or Rashid, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media & Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
