United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is arriving in Dhaka on Thursday (March 13) for a four-day visit. His Emirates flight (EK-586) is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5 PM.
Upon arrival in Dhaka, he will be received by Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain before heading to the Intercontinental Hotel.
On Friday (March 14) at 9 AM, Guterres will meet with Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain and Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the High-Level Representative of the Chief Advisor for Rohingya Issues and Priorities, at the Intercontinental Hotel. Later, at 10 AM, he will visit the office of Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus for a meeting.
Following the meeting, Guterres will fly to Cox’s Bazar on a commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to visit the Rohingya camps. He will be welcomed there by Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Faruq-e-Azam.
In Cox’s Bazar, Guterres and Chief Advisor Professor Yunus will join an iftar with approximately 100,000 Rohingya refugees. During the event, they will interact with Rohingya imams and community leaders.
Before the iftar, the Secretary-General will visit several facilities in the camps, including a watchtower, a learning center, a multipurpose service center, and a jute production facility. He will also engage with Rohingya youth and children.
In the evening, Guterres will return to Dhaka and stay at the Intercontinental Hotel.
On Saturday, the UN Secretary-General will visit the United Nations building in Dhaka, where he will raise the UN flag, attend a photo exhibition marking 50 years of Bangladesh-UN relations, and hold a meeting with UN staff.
In the afternoon, he will participate in a roundtable discussion on Bangladesh’s reform process at the Intercontinental Hotel. He is also expected to engage in a dialogue with youth and meet with members of civil society. Later, he will address a joint media briefing with Foreign Affairs Advisor Hossain.
On the same day, Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus will host an iftar and dinner in honor of the UN Secretary-General.
Guterres will depart Dhaka on Sunday (March 16) at 9:55 AM on an Emirates flight.
