Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to encourage greater Chinese investment in Bangladesh, including the relocation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises to the country.
The assurance came during a bilateral meeting between President Xi and Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, held at the Great Hall in Beijing. Briefing reporters after the discussions, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam described the meeting as highly successful, comprehensive, and constructive.
President Xi reaffirmed China's support for Professor Yunus and his interim government, emphasizing Beijing's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. "It was Professor Yunus's first official foreign visit, and it has been a resounding success," Alam noted.
China has also promised to positively consider several key issues raised by Bangladesh, including reducing interest rates on Chinese loans and increasing cooperation on water resource management.
During the discussions, President Xi reflected on his previous visits to Bangladesh. He recalled studying microcredit during his tenure as governor of Fujian province and shared his fondness for Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruit, which he found particularly delicious.
In light of this, Bangladesh is expected to expand its exports of these fruits to China in the coming months.
