Five people have died in separate road accidents in Rangpur, while at least 24 others have been injured.

These accidents occurred on Friday (January 31) morning. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.

Locals reported that a head-on collision between a Kurigram-bound bus and a three-wheeler (Mahindra) in the China Hall area of Satmatha, Rangpur city, resulted in the deaths of three people. Four others were injured. The injured were rescued and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Masud Alam, Assistant Director of Rangpur Fire Service, stated that dense fog was the primary cause of the accident. The bus hit the Mahindra and fled the scene. Upon receiving the news, the fire service team arrived at the location, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the hospital morgue. However, the identities of the victims remain unknown.

Meanwhile, in Pirganj, a collision between two buses resulted in the death of one person and injuries to 20 passengers. The accident took place around 7:30 AM in front of the Barodargah Highway Police Outpost on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway.

Additionally, a pedestrian was killed in Najirhat, Rangpur, after being hit by a bus. His identity is also unknown.

Eyewitnesses reported that a Sadika Talukdar Paribahan bus, travelling from Dhaka to Kurigram, was dropping off passengers near the police outpost. At that moment, another bus, Rangpur Express, also coming from Dhaka, crashed into the rear of the Sadika Talukdar Paribahan bus. The collision severely damaged the front of Rangpur Express and the rear of the Sadika Talukdar bus, leaving 20 people injured. Six to seven seriously injured passengers were rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where one later succumbed to injuries.

Mohammad Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police outpost, stated that residents, police officers, and fire service personnel worked together in the rescue efforts. Both buses have been taken into police custody.
