The hearing has completed on the writ petition filed seeking change in voting day for the upcoming two city corporation elections in Dhaka due to Sarashwati puja celebration. In this regard the High Court will deliver order on Tuesday (January 14).
The hearing took place at the High Court bench of Justice JBM Hasan and Justice Md. Khairul Alam. Lawyer Ashok Kumar Ghosh stood for the writ petitioner while Lawyer Touhidul Alam represented the Election Commission.
Lawyer Ashok Kumar Ghosh filed the writ petition on January 5 seeking reschedule of the two city corporation elections as Sarashwati puja will be celebrated on January 30, the date fixed for holding the elections.
The lawyer said, on January 29 and 30 Sarashwati puja will be organized in different educational institutions of the country including capital Dhaka. But voting centers will be set up in different educational institutions in Dhaka city elections. For that reason the writ was filed to defer the election.
