To mark the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Bank (BB) is set to introduce a new series of banknotes featuring the theme "Historic and Archaeological Structures of Bangladesh." The redesigned notes will cover all denominations—Tk1,000, Tk500, Tk200, Tk100, Tk50, Tk20, Tk10, Tk5, and Tk2.
As part of the first phase, the central bank will release the newly designed Tk1,000, Tk50, and Tk20 notes starting 1 June, ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, according to a press release issued today.
The new notes will initially be available from Bangladesh Bank’s Motijheel office, and later from its other branches across the country. The central bank confirmed that existing paper notes and metal coins will remain valid and in circulation alongside the new versions.
For currency enthusiasts, BB has also produced non-exchangeable specimen notes of Tk1,000, Tk50, and Tk20. These can be purchased at set prices from the Currency Museum in Mirpur.
Bangladesh Bank has urged the public to familiarize themselves with the new designs and security features to help prevent counterfeiting.
