It's not Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Prabhas, or even Rajinikanth. The most "expensive" star in Indian cinema right now is none other than southern sensation Thalapathy Vijay.

According to Indian media, Vijay is set to receive a staggering taka 275 crores for his upcoming film, 'Thalapathy 69,' which is also rumored to be his final film. This makes him the highest-paid actor in India at present.

Vijay has been a dominant figure in the South Indian film industry for years and enjoys immense popularity across India. His recent films have consistently smashed box office records, often crossing the 100 crore taka mark with ease.

Audiences have loved him in blockbuster hits like 'Mersal,' 'Thuppakki,' 'Master,' and most recently, 'Leo.' At 49, Vijay is known not only for his acting but also for his incredible dance skills, which have endeared him to millions of fans. However, despite his successful career, Vijay is now making moves towards a political career.

Earlier this year, Vijay announced the launch of his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, just as India geared up for the Lok Sabha elections. His aim is to contest in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.

According to sources close to Vijay, he is actively working on expanding his political presence, not just in Tamil Nadu but also in neighboring states like Kerala and Karnataka, capitalizing on his large fan base.

As his political commitments grow, it's reported that Vijay may gradually step away from the silver screen to focus fully on his political career. This is why there is a huge buzz surrounding his final film, and it’s speculated that his enormous fee for 'Thalapathy 69' reflects the significance of his potential farewell to cinema.
