After establishing himself in English football, Hamza Choudhury has returned to Bangladesh to don the red and green jersey, marking a significant moment in his career.
The British footballer of Bangladeshi descent landed at Sylhet International Airport at 10:45 am on Monday (March 17).
Hamza boarded a Bangladesh Biman flight from Manchester to Sylhet at 2:00 am Bangladesh time on Sunday (March 16).
Officials from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), including seven executive members, were present at the airport to receive him. His father, Morshed Dewan Choudhury, was also there to welcome him.
After completing immigration formalities, Hamza will head to his ancestral home in Snanghat village, Bahubal Upazila, Habiganj, where he will spend time with his family. His arrival has already created a festive atmosphere in the area.
Meanwhile, eager fans and media personnel have gathered outside Sylhet Airport, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
Speaking to the media, Hamza's father shared, "Hamza was born in London, but I often brought him to Bangladesh during his childhood. He would spend months here, playing in the fields with local children. This deep connection with the country inspired his decision to represent Bangladesh at the national level."
Though Hamza has visited Bangladesh before, this trip is particularly special as it marks his debut as a national team player. Accompanying him are his mother, wife, and children, making the journey even more memorable.
If all goes according to plan, Hamza is expected to arrive in Dhaka tomorrow to join the national team camp. The Sheffield United midfielder is set to make his international debut for Bangladesh on March 25 against India.
