After 15 months, Hamas, the Palestinian independence movement, and Israel have agreed on a ceasefire in Gaza, set to take effect next Sunday (January 19). In the latest brutal attacks, at least 30 Palestinians have been killed.

This information comes from a report by Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based news outlet. According to the report, since Israeli attacks began in October 2023, 46,707 Palestinians have been killed, and 110,265 have been injured, many of whom have been left disabled.

Meanwhile, in the occupied West Bank, five Palestinians were killed in Israeli bombings. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that the bodies of the five killed in Jenin by Israeli attacks were brought to Jenin Government Hospital. On the previous Tuesday, six Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Jenin.

Since the unprecedented Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, Israel has continuously carried out air and ground assaults in the Gaza Strip. This indiscriminate aggression has targeted mosques, schools, hospitals, residential buildings, and even refugee camps in the densely populated Gaza Strip, displacing over 2 million residents.

Israel's relentless attacks have turned Gaza into rubble. According to UN data, approximately 85% of Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced due to Israeli aggression. Gazans are living in extreme hardship, facing severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Qatar, Egypt, and the United States are mediating the ceasefire decision. On Wednesday night, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani confirmed the ceasefire decision in a press conference in Doha. The Qatari Prime Minister stated that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza will be effective from January 19.

Under the agreement, Hamas will release 33 Israeli prisoners in the first phase, including women, children, and men over 50 years old.

Israel will withdraw its forces from areas more than 700 meters from the Gaza-Israel border in densely populated regions of Gaza.

Israel will also allow civilians in northern Gaza to return to their homes and permit the daily entry of up to 600 relief trucks.

The second phase of the agreement includes the release of remaining live hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, the establishment of a permanent ceasefire, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, provided the conditions are met.
