The Libyan police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has rescued 23 kidnapped Bangladeshi nationals in Misrata. Two individuals involved in the abduction have been arrested.
According to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya on Tuesday night (April 1), the CID launched an operation based on reports of foreign nationals being kidnapped and tortured for ransom.
Following an investigation, the police successfully located the kidnappers and conducted a raid, rescuing the hostages. The rescued Bangladeshis and the arrested suspects have been handed over to the Al-Giran police station for further legal proceedings.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya and Misrata Police's CID confirmed the incident through separate Facebook posts, also sharing related images.
In its statement, the Bangladesh Embassy thanked Misrata's law enforcement authorities for their prompt and effective action. It further assured that the embassy is in active communication with the relevant authorities to ensure necessary legal assistance and support for the rescued individuals.
