Protesters have blocked Shahbagh intersection in the capital, demanding a ban on the Awami League. They have stated that this protest will continue until their demands are met.
The protest began around 4:40 pm on Friday, as participants started gathering near the Hotel Intercontinental and moved toward the Shahbagh intersection. Many were seen holding placards and banners, chanting slogans calling for the dissolution of the ruling party.
As a result of the blockade, vehicular movement has come to a complete standstill on key connecting roads, including those leading to Science Laboratory, TSC, and Banglamotor.
Speaking to the media, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur confirmed that the demonstration was underway and that a sufficient number of police personnel had been deployed to the area to maintain order.
The protest was initiated following an earlier announcement by Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator for the southern division of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), who had called for the Shahbagh blockade earlier in the day.
