The quota reformist students including DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur have taken their position in front of the residence of Dhaka University Vice Chancellor to press home their demand of punishment for the Chhatra League activists who assaulted Nur and other leaders. They said that they will continue their demonstration and sit in program until demand is not met.
The student took their position at around 7:30 pm on Tuesday.
About the assault Nurul Haque Nur said, on Monday night a masters student named Farid Hasan was beaten up. Farid was a GS candidate in the DUCSU election from independent panel. If Farid goes to hall then he will be beaten again- when heard about this I went along with him. He went to his room to change his bloodstained shirt. At that time the Chhatra League activists scolded us. Even they attacked us and hurled eggs on us. Four to five students were injured following the incident. We were cordoned off for about two hours. We will not leave the place until our demand for trial is not met.
But the hall provost said that they were not cordoned off.
Eyewitnesses said, in the afternoon general students brought out a procession protesting the assault on Farid Hasan led by VP Nur, Independent VP candidate Aroni Semanti Khan, DUCSU social service secretary Akter Hossain and other panel candidates.
After the demonstration they submitted complain to the Proctor and started for SM Hall. The Chhatra League activists took their position in the hall from earlier. When Nur and others reached there the Chhatra League activists hurled eggs on them. Nur was confined there. Later Nur along with other student leaders took their position in front of VC’s residence in protest.
