Veni, vidi, vici. These three words at the moment are suitable to Soumya Sarkar. He played what an extraordinary innings with Imrul Kayes! He joined the team yesterday coming from Khulna where he was playing national league. There was no surety whether he is going to play this match.
Bangladesh opener Liton Das was LBW in the very first ball of the innings bowled by Kyle Jervis to achieve the target of 287 runs.
So, Soumya performed his role with Imrul Kayes as an opener. But the team was declared keeping him out of the squad. As the debutant Fazle Rabbi scored two ducks in two consecutive matches so the luck favored for Soumya.
Imrul and Soumya made a partnership of 220 runs. They stayed in the crease till 29.5 overs.
When Soumya returned to the dressing room there were 117 runs against his name of just 92 balls with nine boundaries and six over boundaries.
On the other hand opener Imrul Kayes was quite careful as he got out in nervous ninety’s in the last match. He made his half century slowly. Then he made it century. With this innings he leapfrogged Tamim Iqbal for scoring highest runs among Bangladeshi batsmen in three One Day Internationals series. Tamim’s runs were 312. But Imrul with his first match 144, second 90 and third match 115 runs scored total 349 runs.
The target set by Zimbabwe seemed quite ordinary for the batting of Bnagladeshi batsmen specially Soumya and Imrul. Mushfique finished the game hitting a six. This time Mr. Dependable was not out 28 of 39 balls to clinch the 7 wicket victory against Zimbabwe.
Earlier in their Innings Zimbabwe scored a big total of 286 runs with help of a glorious century by Sean Williams.
Soumya Sarkar was adjudicated Man of the match award and Man of the series award went to Imrul Kayes for his brilliant two centuries and one half century.
The first test match of the series will commence on November 3 in Sylhet.
