US issues travel alerts for Bangladesh
United States has issued increased travel alerts for its citizens due to crimes and terrorism in Bangladesh. The alert was issued from US State Department on June 1.
US citizens are advised to consider the matter of travelling in south-east regions of the country including Dhaka and Chattogram Hill Tracts with more alertness.
Earlier Bangladesh was kept in level-2 of the US travel alert. This year the position is static but due to the increasing incidents of theft, robbing, rape and other crimes the dimension is extended.
Some terrorist groups are planning to make attack on Bangladesh. The alert was made saying that the groups can attack on tourist spots, communication centers, markets or shopping malls, restaurants, religious institutions and local government offices.
It also expressed concern that incidents of attack may happen though presence of huge law enforcing agency members. The trend of crimes has increased in Dhaka and it increases mostly in the night.
It also termed travelling in Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban hilly districts as dangerous due to abduction and other crimes. Political demonstration, blockade and violence are taking place in these areas and it may continue, it also said. Permission should get from public security department of Bangladesh home ministry to travel in these districts, the statement of alert also added.
