18 wards of capital at 'high risk' of Dengue

It was revealed that 18 wards within the two city corporations are at high risk of dengue. Dengue outbreak is increasing in the capital before the onset of monsoon.

According to the survey of the Department of Health, the density of Aedes mosquito larvae in 18 wards of the two city corporations of the capital Dhaka is more than the specified standard.

The pre-monsoon survey was conducted from April 17 to 27 under the National Malaria Eradication and Aedes-borne Disease Control Program under the Health Department's Disease Control Wing.

A total of 3,152 homes across both city corporations were inspected, confirmed DGHS Director (Disease Control) Dr Sheikh Daud Adnan during a press briefing held in the DGHS conference room today (28 May).

On Tuesday (May 28) morning, the health department of the capital organized a ceremony to release the results of this survey. The Department of Health presented the data of the survey in the event titled 'Result notification meeting of Seasonal Aedes Survey 2024'. It was presided over by the director general of the directorate. Abul Basar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.

According to the results of the survey, they found Aedes larvae in various locations, including water-logged rooms or building floors, plastic drums, and various types of abandoned plastic containers.

The National Malaria Eradication and Aedes-Borne Disease Control Program of the Department of Health's Disease Control Branch has been conducting pre-season, seasonal and post-season surveys in Dhaka North and South City Corporation areas every year. As part of that, survey activities were conducted in Dhaka North and South City Corporation areas through 21 teams of entomologists of the Directorate's Disease Control Branch.
