A clash between police and students demanding quota reform erupted in Jatrabari area of the capital. During clash, it was reported that two pedestrians were shot by the police.

The clash started around 10:30 am on Thursday (July 18).

Earlier on Wednesday (July 17) evening, Awami League and its affiliated organizations and police attacked the area, the students also counterattacked. Then the agitating students set fire to the toll plaza of the Kajla section of the Mayor Hanif flyover. At least six people, including a two-year-old child, have been shot during frequent clashes, with one fatality reported, one killed.

Although police, RAB, and BGB joint patrols briefly cleared the Jatrabari-Shanir Akhra area for traffic around 3:30 am, the protesters quickly regained control, halting traffic on both sides of the highway.

It has been seen on the ground that due to the 'Complete Shutdown' program of the agitators, no vehicles are able to leave or enter Dhaka. Even rickshaws, motorcycles, bicycles are not allowed to operate. As a result, common people have suffered. Especially the office goers are in extreme suffering. Many people were seen walking to reach the destination.

Incidentally, the agitating students are observing 'Complete Shutdown' today on Thursday to demand the brutal attack of police-BGB-RAB and SWAT on the peaceful movement of the students, protesting the murder, trial of the murderers, ensuring a terror-free campus and rational reform of the quota system. During this program, everything except hospitals, media and other emergency services will be closed
