Nearly one crore people are in sufferings as they were not provided national identity cards after applying three to four year back. On the other hand, it was said that Election Commission will hand over Smart Cards to 9 crore citizens by the year 2017 but they were unable to supply those to at least 10 percent people.
Director General of National Identity Registration Wing said, 93 lakh national identity and smart cards were cancelled as the contractor firm produced low quality cards. The cards are being made freshly. Card distribution will begin in next December.
Crores of people are in problems as they cannot submit national identity cards in different emergency services like bank account opening, land registration, university admission and making passport.
But still nearly one crore citizens yet to receive national identity cards after applying about three to four years back. Besides there are unprecedented errors in the cards and to correct those people are in great sufferings.
On the other hand, huge irregularities were seen in the smart card project. According to the agreement with Election Commission the contractor firm Smart Technology BD was asked to supply 9 crore smart cards in 2017. But they could not complete the work in the stipulated time.
Director General of National Identity Registration Wing Saidul Islam said, they did not provide high quality service. After experiments our department came to know that those were not quality cards. The company moved away from the specific conditions. They could not make standard quality cards. Necessary steps are being taken in this regard.
He also said, printing work for rest of the cards including those 93 lakh cards for freshly are going on smoothly which will conclude before the national election.
Though the work will be completed but due to lack of manpower it will take some time to reach the cards to 9 crore people, he added.
