Miscreants have carried out terrible rampages around the students' quota movement across the country. Especially in the capital, various important government buildings and vehicles were heavily damaged. The scars of the vandalism are still scattered from one end of the city to the other.
On July 17, The rampage started by setting fire to the toll plaza of the capital's mayor Mohammad Hanif flyover. Then miscreants set fire to the toll plazas of Banani and Mohakhali elevated expressway, Setu Bhaban, Metrorail station, BTV Bhaban, Mirpur Fire Service Station and data center at Mohakhali. Police outpost, traffic box and many vehicles were burnt.
Apart from this, miscreants have rampaged outside the capital as well. Various municipalities and union offices of the country have been set on fire. Many establishments including the regional passport office were attacked. Three policemen and one Ansar were killed in such an attack by miscreants.
The government was forced to issue a curfew from 12 midnight on July 19 under such dire circumstances. Normal situation returned to the country within 48 hours of army deployment. Offices and banks were opened from Wednesday (July 24). Public transport is running on the road. Broadband internet service is also runs after six days. Relief has started to return to people's minds.
On Wednesday, Army Chief Waker-uz-Zaman said that there have been isolated incidents in some parts of the country. The main problem was in Dhaka. In no time we managed to control everything. At present, traffic on the road is normal.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the curfew was imposed to deal with the situation. Everything will come under control in the next 3-4 days.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman said, terrorists have come here from different areas outside Dhaka and set up base. People are hired to kill policemen with money.
DMP Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said that no one involved in violence during the quota reform movement will be spared.
He also said that BNP-Jamaat terrorists are involved in this violence. A total of 69 establishments were attacked in Dhaka. 54 traffic boxes were burnt.
It is to be noted that at least 159 cases have been registered in different police stations of the country including the capital in connection with this terrible violence across the country. Various police units including RAB-DB are conducting operations to arrest those involved. So far 2 thousand 747 people have been arrested.
