Wounds of August not healed, fear of floods again
At the beginning of monsoon this year, the country was hit by heavy rains and floods in the north-eastern region. Residents of Sylhet, Sunamganj and surrounding districts spent about two weeks suffering. Besides, the water rose in the northern region so that the lower region sank.
After that, floods occurred in the north and north-eastern parts of the country in early July as well. As a result, many villages were flooded. In the midst of very heavy rains from India, severe floods occurred in 11 districts of the country (Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Cumilla, Brahmanbaria, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachari, Sylhet, Habiganj and Moulvibazar) since August 20.
As a result of floods, houses, schools, villages, fish enclosures, crop fields and roads were suddenly swept away. Electricity and mobile networks were cut off in most places.
As the waters recede now, images of damage and injury are beginning to emerge. 59 people died. There is a shortage of food and clean water. However, more than 7 lakh families are still without water. 53 lakh 6 thousand 402 people affected.
In such a situation, the Meteorological Department has predicted that there may be short-term floods in some parts of the country in this month (September) again.
According to the long-term weather forecast, there is a possibility of normal rainfall in the country during this month.
There is a threat of two-three days of moderate thunderstorms in the northern and central parts of the country and three-five days of light thunderstorms across the country.
Apart from this, short-term flooding may occur in some places due to monsoonal heavy rains in the northern, northeastern and southeastern regions of the country this month.
Alongside, one to two mild heatwaves may occur in September. Day and night temperatures may be slightly changed.
