All Garment Factories to be Open from Tomorrow: Asif Mahmud
Representatives of factory owners and workers have agreed upon 18 demands addressing labor concerns, Labor Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said today (24 September).
He also said that the attendance bonus of garment factory workers will increase. At the same time, the owners have agreed to implement the 18-point demands of the workers.
This decision was taken after extensive discussion between 35 representatives of both sides in the meeting of BGMEA leaders and labor union leaders held in the conference room of the ministry on Tuesday (24 September). Four advisors of the interim government were present in the meeting.
They are Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, and Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter.
Secretary AHM Safiqzzaman said it has also been decided to open all industrial factories across the country from tomorrow.
At the meeting, the owners accepted the demands of the workers, including allocation of the Tiffin bill due to ongoing labor unrest in the country, implementation of minimum wages in all factories by October 10, and payment of ration through TCB and OMS in labor-intensive areas.
Other key demands include ensuring adequate compensation and rehabilitation for the slain federation members and families of the workers, immediate withdrawal of false cases filed against garment workers during the recent wage agitation, stopping illegal blacklisting of workers, and cancellation of all previous blacklisting.
