The Verdict of Renu Murder Case Today
The verdict in the murder case of Taslima Begum Renu, who was beaten to death by a mob in Dhaka's Badda area due to rumors of child abduction while inquiring about enrolling her child in school, will be announced today, Monday.
Dhaka's Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Mohammad Morshed Alam, will deliver the verdict. Renu’s family members are hoping for the maximum punishment for the accused.
The accused are: Ibrahim alias Hridoy Molla, Riya Begum Moyna, Abul Kalam Azad, Kamal Hossain, Md. Shahin, Bacchu Mia, Md. Bappi alias Shahidul Islam, Murad Mia, Sohel Rana, Asadul Islam, Bellal Molla, Md. Raju alias Rumman Hossain, and Mohiuddin.
On July 20, 2019, Taslima Begum Renu was killed by a mob in a school in Dhaka’s Badda area while inquiring about enrolling her children, due to suspicion of child abduction. Following the incident, Renu’s nephew, Syed Nasir Uddin Titu, filed a murder case against 500 unknown individuals.
On September 10, 2020, the case’s investigation officer, Inspector Abdul Haque from the Detective Branch (DB) of police, submitted charge sheets against 13 individuals and juvenile reports against two minors. On April 1, 2021, the court framed charges against the 13 accused.
During the trial, the court recorded testimonies from 19 out of 26 witnesses. Additionally, the case involving the two minors is being tried separately at Dhaka’s Women and Children Tribunal-7.
