300 Students Join Police to Manage Traffic in Dhaka
Interim Government Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced that 300 students will be working alongside the police to improve traffic management in Dhaka.
He mentioned this in his speech as the chief guest during the inauguration of Traffic Party-2024 of DMP at Rajarbagh Police Lines (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) on Monday (October 21).
The Home Affairs Advisor said, "Students will take part in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Traffic Week from Oct 21 to Nov 4 and will be paid an honorarium." The advisor also hinted at the possibility of increasing the number of participating students in the future.
The announcement was made during the launch of DMP's Traffic Week 2024 at the Rajarbagh Police Lines on Monday.
He further said, "These students have joined us for Traffic Week and will continue to assist us going forward. Initially, around 300 students will work on our traffic side. The number will be increased later. We will give them an honor. I will give them a reasonable fee."
After August 5, students have done a good job on the streets. Now by working with us, they might be able to improve the road situation a little bit."
Jahangir Alam said, "Besides, numerous non-mechanized vehicles including rickshaws and vans ply on the same road. People are approaching these vehicles for their needs. As a result, it is becoming difficult to implement an orderly traffic system in the Dhaka metropolis.
On the other hand, due to various demands from time to time, the order is breaking down on the road, and due to the excess of legal and illegal vehicles, the traffic jams are becoming unbearable day by day. The current government is working to develop the traffic system by involving government and private organizations.
It is not possible to develop Dhaka's traffic system as expected by working through the government or the police. It is necessary to reach out to every people living in the city.
