High Court Ruling on Re-Investigation of Pilkhana Murder Case
The High Court has issued a ruling seeking to know why there is no re-investigation into the killing of army officers during the mutiny at the then headquarters of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) in Dhaka on February 25 and 26, 2009. At the same time, the court ordered to disposal of the application made to the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking a re-investigation of the Pilkhana murder case.
The High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury passed the order on Tuesday (November 5). Advocate Tanvir Ahmed heard the petition in court.
The writ petitioner said that the people of the country want to know the reason behind the killing of 57 army officers. After the interim government took over, the Home Affairs Adviser said to re-investigate the matter, but no action has been taken yet. Hence the writ petition has been filed.
After the Pilkhana tragedy, the lawyer quoted retired Brigadier General Hasan Nasir, a member of the National Commission of Inquiry, as saying that at that time the government's intervention was only a paper investigation. If he protested, he was dismissed from the army. This former army officer also said that the then army chief Moin Uddin Ahmed was talking incoherently to avoid responsibility.
