Md Emdadul Bari, Chairman of the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has said that the government is working to reduce internet prices for user's benefit.

He stated this in a meeting at a hotel in the capital on Monday (November 4).

BTRC chairman said that internet service should be a basic human right today. It is also important to make a law about it. The internet should never be shut down. BTRC will do everything to make this service sustainable and affordable.

He said that mobile operators want to be known as digital service providers in the data revolution. But it is not possible if the price of the internet package does not come down to the lower price. The network has to be sustained for this. So we can move to the asset-light model.

Emdadul Bari also said that many powers of BTRC have decreased. It will be restored. Also, more licenses will not be given in the future. Rather work will be done to give sustainable license. We will now move from voice-friendly to data-friendly.

He also said that no one will be allowed to become a monster in the telecom sector. Those who try will be cut off if necessary.

In the meeting, it was informed that until 2024, the transmission network has spread up to 1,71,106 km across the country by public and private companies. As a result of this network, all internet-based services have spread up to the union level.
