Even if Sheikh Hasina is not returned, the normal relationship with Delhi will continue, stated Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain.

He made this remark on Wednesday (January 1) during a discussion with journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Affairs Advisor noted that there are many mutual interests between the two countries beyond the Sheikh Hasina issue. "We will move forward focusing on those matters," he said.

He further added that in the new year, priority will be given to strengthening relations with the United States, China, and India. As part of this, he will be visiting China on a bilateral trip later this month.

Regarding the situation in Myanmar's Rakhine state, Towhid Hossain said that the government is closely monitoring the developments. "The situation in Rakhine has changed. Resolving the Rohingya crisis remains a major challenge for the government. The Rohingyas must be repatriated with their rights and security ensured," he emphasized.

He also mentioned that the renewal of the Ganges Water Treaty with India is a technical matter and discussions on the Ganges water-sharing agreement have already started.
