HC orders BTRC to remove Al Jazeera report from online platforms

The High Court has ordered to remove the video of recently broadcasted Al Jazeera report on Bangladesh from the online platforms. The hearing of the writ petition over banning Al Jazeera transmission in Bangladesh and removal of the report from facebook and You Tube took place on Wednesday afternoon. The hearing was arranged based on the opinion of Amicus Curie. The High Court (HC) bench of Justice Md. Mujibur Rahman Mian and Justice Md. Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order.

Attorney General M Amin Uddin took part in the hearing while Barrister Reza E Rakib represented BTRC. Barrister Enamul Kabir Emon stood for the writ petitioner. After completion of the hearing the court fixed the time for order.

Earlier, on February 15 lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali, Kamalul Alam, Prabir Niyogi, Barrister Fida M Kamal, Abdul Matin Khasru and Shahdin Malik expressed their opinions as Amicus Curie before the concerned virtual bench.

Earlier on February 8 the writ petition was filed before the HC seeking direction to remove the Al Jazeera report on Bangladesh from facebook and You Tube and also to ban transmission of the channel. Later on February 10 the HC appointed six Amicus Curie to hear their opinions in this regard. As well as the court fixed the date for hearing on February 15.
