The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has directed that the investigation report regarding the case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the July-August genocide be submitted by April 20.
The three-member tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order on Tuesday (February 18) after the prosecution requested it. Additional Chief Prosecutor Mizanul Islam represented the prosecution during the hearing.
Earlier on December 17, the tribunal had instructed that the investigation into the two cases related to crimes against humanity during the July-August genocide—implicating Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 46 others—be completed within two months.
The ongoing trial at the International Crimes Tribunal accuses Sheikh Hasina and other defendants of orchestrating and ordering the killing of student protesters during the anti-discrimination student movement. Reports indicate that the Awami League government carried out indiscriminate killings to suppress the movement, resulting in approximately 1,500 deaths.
On August 5, following mounting student protests, Sheikh Hasina's 15-year tenure ended. Subsequently, an interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus assumed power and initiated legal proceedings to bring those responsible for the July-August genocide to justice.
