The government is committed to bringing back individuals who have fled abroad after committing crimes such as murder and corruption. This includes all fugitive Members of Parliament and ministers, who will be brought under the purview of the law, said Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor.
He made the remarks during a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Monday (April 21).
Shafiqul Alam noted that during the upcoming visit to Qatar, several high-level meetings will take place aimed at strengthening bilateral ties—particularly in expanding the labour market and enhancing cooperation in the energy sector.
He also mentioned the possibility of a bilateral meeting between the Chief Advisor and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Discussions are expected to focus on simplifying visa procedures and energy collaboration.
The Press Secretary added that the Chief Advisor will give an exclusive interview at the Al Jazeera headquarters while in Qatar. Additionally, there will be a two-and-a-half-hour session dedicated to the Rohingya crisis, with participation from Dr Muhammad Yunus. It is anticipated that the session will contribute further to resolving the ongoing humanitarian issue.
Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government, is scheduled to depart for Qatar on Monday evening for a four-day official visit.
According to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, the visit is taking place at the invitation of the Emir of Qatar. During the trip, Dr Yunus will also attend the "Earth Summit 2025" in Doha, where a potential meeting with the Emir is on the agenda.
