Following his visit to Qatar and attendance at the funeral of Pope Francis in Vatican City, Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus has begun his journey back home.
On Sunday (April 27), local time, Dr Yunus departed from Rome Airport, Italy, on a flight bound for his home country. The information was confirmed by Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
Earlier on Saturday (April 26), Dr Yunus took part in the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis at St. Peter's Square in Vatican City.
Dr Yunus had originally left Dhaka on April 21 to attend the Arthana Conference in Doha, Qatar. Although he was scheduled to return after a four-day visit, the sudden death of Pope Francis led him to travel directly from Qatar to Vatican City.
During the two-hour funeral programme on Saturday, Dr Yunus paid his final respects to Pope Francis, joining more than 130 world leaders at the event.
Before and after the funeral rites and prayers, Dr Yunus exchanged greetings with several prominent figures, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, EU President Ursula von der Leyen, former US President Joe Biden, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Kenyan President William Ruto, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović, and the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.
