The Health Reform Commission of Bangladesh submitted its reform report to Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus on Monday, May 5. The commission recommended enacting 7 new laws to improve the country's healthcare system, including the formation of an independent and permanent Bangladesh Health Commission.
The proposed laws are:
- Bangladesh Health Commission Act
- Bangladesh Health Services Act
- Primary Health Care Act
- Health Protection Act
- Drug Price and Accessibility Act
- Allied Health Professionals Commission Act
- Bangladesh Medical Research Commission Act
The commission also recommended limiting direct contact between pharmaceutical representatives and doctors, suggesting communication be done through email instead.
This 12-member commission, led by National Professor AK Azad Khan, was formed in November 2024 and includes experts from public health, medicine, and research institutions.
